Greetings! I’m a Tech Support Specialist who turned a childhood fascination with electronics into a fulfilling career. From my early days of selling computers to earning a degree in Information Systems Management, technology has always been my passion. After over a decade in IT Project Management, and a couple IT Certifications under my belt, I decided to dive into the hands-on world of IT Support, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m currently gaining valuable experience with the goal of becoming a System Administrator to take my career to the next level.

When I am not at work, you can find me spending time with my wife and three amazing daughters who bring joy and excitement to my life. I’m a huge NFL fan and an avid NFL card collector. I also enjoy cooking and recreating my favorite restaurant meals at home.

I’m dedicated to providing excellent tech support and helping you navigate any tech challenges with ease.

Originally from Polkton, I attended South Piedmont Community College while in high school and earned my Associate’s in Arts and Science. I then attended Appalachian State University, where I earned my degree in Computer Information Systems. After graduation, I moved back to Anson County and started working at the place I call home, SPCC.

Mike Fortune

I work closely with Robert Mullis, SPCC’s CIO, to align technology initiatives with the college’s educational objectives, ensuring that faculty, staff, and students have access to innovative and reliable IT solutions. I oversee IT operations, manage projects, and support strategic planning to keep SPCC’s infrastructure modern and efficient. Currently, I am focused on trimming the fat of outdated IT equipment and migrating a majority of servers to the cloud, optimizing efficiency and scalability.

Beyond my nearly 30 years of IT experience, I have cultivated a wealth of diverse experiences that shaped my adaptability and entrepreneurial spirit. During high school, I attended four different schools in four years, attending boarding school in Chattanooga, TN, for my sophomore year and spending my junior year in St. Thomas. At the age of 20, I worked as a scuba instructor in Grand Cayman, developing skills in leadership and communication. Following that, I spent six years traveling the world while working onboard Norwegian Cruise Ships, gaining invaluable global experience and cultural insights. While continuing my professional career in IT, I also took on the challenge of owning and operating a restaurant, blending my passion for business with my technical expertise. This endeavor further honed my entrepreneurial acumen, reinforcing my ability to manage complex operations and adapt to dynamic environments. These life experiences, combined with my professional journey, have equipped me with unique perspectives and problem-solving skills. My career has spanned roles in education, hospitality, and nonprofit organizations, with achievements such as modernizing network infrastructures and leading large-scale IT projects.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy traveling, sailing with my family as well as woodworking. We have two wonderful sons, aged 7 and 9, whom we homeschool, making every day a blend of learning and adventure. My wife and I both hold captain’s certificates for monohull and multihull sailing vessels and love exploring the open seas together. Based in Charlotte, NC, I appreciate the city’s vibrant community and its proximity to both the mountains and the coast—perfect for our adventures.
