Undergraduate Research FAQ
The research process provides ample opportunities for students to improve their critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities. In addition, students can also develop and showcase skills such as:
- Effective oral, written, and visual communication skills
- Proficiency in information and technology literacy
- Social responsibility and advocacy
Generally, individual students or small groups of students work with a faculty mentor to create a research proposal that details their intended project. Then, they get started on the project, collaborating along the way, until the project’s conclusion. At the end of the research project, students may choose to submit their work in South Piedmont’s student journal, Revere.
Identify a topic and/or faculty mentor(s) to oversee your project. If you’re unsure of these, but you know that you want to complete a project, please reach out to Undergraduate Research Program Coordinator Katherine Widner at kidner@spcc.edu. Proposals are considered on a rolling basis, so they can be submitted at any point during the calendar year, with the support of a faculty mentor. There are no specific project deadlines; the student determines the timeline for completion of the project.
There are no prerequisites or requirements that you must meet in order to apply. We encourage all interested students to apply for this opportunity.
