Whether you’re a competitive gamer, a casual player, or simply looking for a new way to get involved on campus, South Piedmont Community College’s Esports program has a place for you. Open to all South Piedmont students, the program gives you the opportunity to compete, connect with others, and be part of a growing campus community.
You can join our varsity or junior varsity Esports teams and compete against colleges from across the region and nation. If competition isn’t your focus, you can take advantage of open play opportunities to enjoy gaming in a fun, welcoming environment. You can also participate in Esports clubs, where you’ll build friendships, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and connect with fellow gamers who share your interests.
No matter your experience level, South Piedmont’s Esports program gives you a place to play, compete, and belong. It’s one of the most exciting ways to meet new people, engage with campus life, and make the most of your college experience.

Esports Details
The Esports Arena is available to all students and employees for open play.
In addition to open play, South Piedmont’s Esports Arena serves as an incubator for diverse gaming clubs that cater to specific interests and genres. Clubs include:
Speedrunner Clubs: Where members analyze game mechanics to complete titles in record time.
RPG Clubs: Dedicated to tabletop and digital role-playing games, fostering storytelling and character development.
Horror Gaming Clubs: Offering a shared space for fans to experience thrillers and survival horrors together.
By hosting these specialized clubs, the arena ensures that every niche interest is validated and supported. Ultimately, the Esports Arena is about inclusion; it is a place where everyone is welcome to unplug, connect, and thrive in a community that understands and celebrates their identity as gamers.
South Piedmont Community College Esports puts academics first. While your academic performance is in your hands, we’re here to support you and help you be as successful as possible while at South Piedmont. Please utilize the resources available to you in order to maintain academic excellence while at South Piedmont Community College.
The South Piedmont Esports program approaches academics in a similar fashion to the athletic conference in which South Piedmont competes. The academic standards for South Piedmont are as follows:
Term GPA requirements:
To participate as an arena player: 2.25
To participate as an arena club officer: 2.5
To participate as a varsity player: 2.75
Students below a 2.00 overall GPA at midterms will be required to meet with the director to establish an academic action and remediation plan. If a student is below a 2.00 GPA at any point from midterm onward, they will be required to meet with academic advising. Students below the overall GPAs listed above will be ineligible to compete but must continue meeting with campus officials to remain active on the South Piedmont Esports roster.
As a member of the South Piedmont Esports Program, you’re expected to follow South Piedmont’s standards of conduct, as well as the expectations established by the Esports program and your team. This includes being on time for practices and competitions, treating teammates and staff with respect, following facility rules, and using Esports equipment and spaces appropriately.
Students who do not meet these expectations may face disciplinary action, which can include warnings, an improvement plan, suspension from team activities or the Esports facility, or removal from the Esports program, depending on the nature and severity of the situation.
The South Piedmont Esports Arena is a shared space for students to game, compete, and connect. To keep the facility safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone, you’re expected to follow the Arena rules and South Piedmont Community College policies.
A designated room monitor, known as the Game Master, oversees the Esports Arena and has the authority to address concerns related to safety, equipment, cleanliness, food and drinks, and behavior. If the Game Master provides direction regarding the use of the facility, all users are expected to follow it.
When using the Esports Arena, please abide by the following rules:
- Respect the space and others. Keep noise and movement to a reasonable level, be respectful of other students and College employees, and practice good sportsmanship.
- Keep the lounge clean. Clean up after yourself and dispose of trash properly.
- Follow food and drink guidelines. Small, dry, non-messy snacks are permitted. Full meals should be eaten in the nearby student lounge. Drinks must be in resealable containers; open cans are not permitted.
- Take care of the technology. Do not download software or modify computers without prior approval. Always log out of software and websites when you’re finished.
- Respect equipment. Students may be responsible for repair or replacement costs if they intentionally damage Esports equipment.
- Follow campus policies. The Esports Arena is located in Building A, Room 1204, and all applicable South Piedmont campus and facility policies apply.
- Respect reserved spaces. Varsity teams may have reserved practice spaces during their competitive seasons. Check the Esports schedule before using these spaces.
- Follow general safety rules. Shoes or sandals are required. Tobacco, marijuana, drugs, weapons, pets, and other prohibited items are not permitted in the facility.
- Keep personal belongings out of the way. Store bags against the walls or underneath desks.
- Practice good hygiene. Make sure you are clean and appropriately dressed.
By using the Esports Arena, you agree to follow these guidelines and help create a space where everyone can enjoy gaming and Esports at South Piedmont.
The Esports Arena is open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including holidays unless otherwise noted for special events, specific rentals of the facility, or staffing issues.
