South Piedmont Celebrates Graduates of Excellence

South Piedmont Community College on Wednesday celebrated its 2024 Graduates of Excellence.

To be eligible for a Graduates of Excellence award, students must have a 3.5 or higher GPA, participated in community service, been involved in student government or other South Piedmont student organizations, and completed an ePortfolio, which is a website that tells the story of the student’s academic and professional development.

Receiving Graduates of Excellence awards during Wednesday’s ceremony at the Old Charlotte Highway campus were:

Karizma Lowery, School of Applied Technical Programs

Amelia Morton, School of Health & Public Safety

Vasyl Novykov, School of College & Career Readiness

Isabella Szarko, School of Arts & Sciences

Additionally, Yerlin Barrientos-Lara received this year’s Academic Excellence Award. Each of the state’s 58 community colleges selects a student to receive the Academic Excellence Award.

Barrientos-Lara participated in South Piedmont’s Global Scholars of Distinction program, Phi Theta Kappa, and several service-learning projects. After her graduation from South Piedmont on May 11, she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in English and Comparative Literature and ultimately become an attorney.
