Nurse Assistant I (CNA)

Course Description

Nurse Assistant I prepares students to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for patients of all ages. This 8-15 week course includes 49 hours of classroom instruction, 70 lab hours, and 40 hours of clinical experience. Upon successful completion, the student will be eligible to test for NC Certification through the instruction and testing service PearsonVue.

Requirements

(Must have all documentation to register):

  • Must be 16 ½ years old
  • Social Security Card (original, cannot be laminated)
  • Current CPR Card (Must be BLS for Healthcare Provider)
  • Current Driver’s License
  • You are required to take the CASAS and score at a 10th grade level or above for reading and 8th grade level or above for math. The test is offered in the testing center by appointment.

Vaccination Record:

  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella
  • Varicella (Chicken Pox) If you have had the Chicken Pox, a blood titer test must be completed to prove immunity
  • Hepatitis B (Can be declined)
  • Tetanus (Last 10 years)
  • Tuberculin Skin Test (Two step test is required for classes in Anson County)
  • Flu Shot (required for classes running September – March)

Registration fee: $280.40
Book and Workbook: Approximately $70
Drug Screen/Background Check: $92 (done through SPCC)
Scrubs: cost varies (You will be provided details on requirements)
State test: $120

Nurse Assistant I Refresher

Course Description

This course is designed to provide individuals with a review of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be demonstrated on the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination necessary for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry (which will be taken on your own for an additional cost of $120.00).

Pre-Requisites

It is primarily for those with expired certifications and those nursing assistants with out-of-state certifications (most show proof of out-of-state certification) seeking employment in North Carolina as a Certified Nurse Aide I.

Requirements

Students wishing to register for the Nursing Assistant Refresher class must provide proof of Nurse Aide I registry listing or completion of a state approved nursing assistant program within the last 2 years.  Students’ listing on the nurse aide registry cannot have expired for more than 2 ½ years.  Students must also provide a current driver’s license or government issued picture ID.
