State, Federal, and Alternative Aid Options

Federal

The Federal Pell Grant is a grant program that helps low-income undergraduate students pay for college. It’s the largest federal grant program for undergraduates. 

Federal Work-Study jobs help students earn money to pay for for college.


State

North Carolina community colleges offer child care assistance grants to eligible student-parents.

The Next NC Scholarship is a financial aid program that helps most North Carolinians from households making $80,000 or less pursue higher education by fully covering tuition and fees at any community college.

The Longleaf Commitment is a grant program for North Carolina high school graduates who will attend one of the state’s community colleges.

Forgivable Education Loans for Service provide financial assistance to qualified students enrolled in an approved education program and committed to working in critical employment shortage professions in North Carolina.

Vocational Rehabilitation services are available for students with mental, physical, or emotional challenges that affect their employment opportunities. For more details, please get in touch with the Vocational Rehabilitation Office in your area.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) provides financial assistance to recently unemployed students. This support can cover books, tuition, fees, child care, transportation, and supplies. The amount and duration of WIOA assistance depend on fund availability and the student’s progress.
