South Piedmont’s New Career Connector Offers Students and Alumni Career Preparedness Assistance; Employers Can Get a Direct Line to Job Seekers

Through its newly created SP Career Connector, South Piedmont Community College is offering students, recent graduates and alumni a one-stop centralized center for comprehensive career preparedness support.

“We are thrilled to introduce the SP Career Connector to the college community, a vital resource that will bridge the gap between education and career success for our students,” said Director of Career Services Debbie Normandía-Berrios.

“The new SP Career Connector streamlines and expands services for students. No longer will students have to visit several different departments or individuals for work-readiness assistance. The Career Connector will be their one and only stop, and the Career Connector team is here — ready, willing, and able to partner with our students and graduates as they navigate their career paths with confidence, while local employers actively seek to hire their highly skilled, work-ready talent.”

The SP Career Connector — a play on the College’s SPCC acronym — will offer a wide range of services, including:

  • Career counseling — Individualized guidance for exploring careers, building essentials skills, and crafting resumes
  • Professional development — An ongoing slate of workshops and networking, skills development, and career advancement events for students, alumni, and employer partners
  • Work-based learning and job strategies — Assistance in securing internship opportunities, submitting job applications, and preparing for interviews
  • Job search resources — Access to an internal job board, as well as career information databases and career workshops
  • Employer access to students and alumni — Local employers can partner with SP Career Connector to post jobs on the College’s internal job board, connecting directly with current students and recent graduates

The SP Career Connector staff is comprised Normandía-Berrios, who brings a long professional history and personal passion for workforce development to her new position, and Career Services Coordinator Eric Skeen, who has worked with the North Carolina Community College System for 19 years. A search is underway for an education navigator, who will work to assist students, alumni and employer partners.

The SP Career Connector department is housed within the College’s Business & Workforce Solutions division.

SP Career Connector services are available to current students, recent graduates and alumni. Services are delivered both in person and virtually.

The SP Career Connector is based at the Tyson Family Center for Technology in Monroe but will also provide services at the Old Charlotte Highway and L.L. Polk campuses.
