Lidia Montiel-Villanueva
SGA Vice President

Paxton Sutton
SGA Vice President
South Piedmont’s Student Government Association has new leadership for the 2025-26 academic year.
Nyla White will serve as the SGA president, while Paxton Sutton and Lidia Montiel-Villanueva will serve as vice presidents. All students applied and went through a rigorous interview process to secure their positions. They were selected based on their commitment to leadership, excellence, and advocacy that they demonstrated during the interview process.
White and Sutton both also represent South Piedmont on the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA). White serves as parliamentarian, while Paxton holds the role of special populations chair.
White is working toward her Associate in Arts degree, as well as a with a certificate in Community Spanish Interpreting. In addition to SGA, she is active in Phi Theta Kappa, the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Law and Public Safety Club, and Book Club.
Outside of South Piedmont, White serves as president of the NAACP Youth Council of Union County and proudly holds the title of Miss Debutante for the Union County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She is passionate about student advocacy and creating a welcoming, engaging campus experience. She’s always excited to support student ideas — whether that means starting a new club, hosting a community event, or just grabbing lunch to talk things over. She wants her fellow students to know that she is just an email away at nwhi6233@student.spcc.edu.
Sutton is going into his third year at South Piedmont and has been involved in Student Government since he began his college career.
He’s working toward his Associate in Arts degree and earning certificates in Paralegal Technology and Criminal Justice. Outside of class, Sutton stays busy with clubs including Book Club, Pride Club, and the National Leadership Honor Society.
One of Sutton’s proudest accomplishments has been helping bring a student-suggested mascot to life — a project that’s becoming a reality this year. He’s also excited to work on making the student center more welcoming and ensuring that student parents feel better supported on campus.
Sutton can be reached nsut6274@student.spcc.edu.
Montiel-Villanueva is stepping into her second year with Student Government, now serving as the vice president for South Piedmont’s Leadership, Legacy, and Purpose (LLP) program. She is a senior at Anson County Early College and is an active student leader, having held multiple roles, including vice president of the Teacher Cadet Club and the National Honor Society, as well as president of the Interact and Rotary Clubs.
She’s passionate about creating opportunities for student involvement and plans to focus on boosting engagement in campus events this year — including encouraging students to connect directly with college leadership. She says she hopes to make events “more informative and engaging” while helping her peers access the resources they need to succeed.
Montiel-Villanueva can be reached at lmon5356@spcc.edu.
“With Nyla, Paxton, and Lidia at the helm, the future of student leadership at South Piedmont is bright. Their passion, dedication, and fresh ideas promise to make a lasting impact on the college community,” said Director of Student Life, Engagement, and Leadership Dr. Alen Doty.
The SGA meets every Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the Student Life Center, located in the Main Building at the Old Charlotte Highway campus.
“The SGA welcomes all students to stop by. Whether you’re looking to get involved, share your thoughts, or simply learn more about what we do, our doors are always open,” Doty said.
