South Piedmont Community College Director of Career Services Debbie Normandia-Berrios has been selected for the prestigious LatinxEd Fellowship program.
“I am thrilled and honored to have been accepted into this program. My lifelong passion has been helping to eliminate educational barriers for members of my community, and with the LatinxEd Fellowship, I’ll gain new skills and expand my network to do this important work on an even deeper level,” Normandia-Berrios said.
Offered by Siler City-based LatinxEd, the LatinxEd Fellowship is a multi-month, immersive leadership development program that equips Latine advocates from across the state with the tools to dismantle barriers, advance educational equity, and build a thriving future. Through workshops, coaching, college advising, and mentorships, LatinxEd Fellows gain the skills needed to advance in their education and leadership journeys, strengthen their cultural identity, and drive systemic change in education.
Fellows take part in programming designed to develop their leadership skills, ability to tell compelling stories that influence both individuals and public policy, analyze power structures, policy landscapes and decision-making processes in order to effect change in the state’s educational system, and connect with leaders throughout the state.
“We are so proud of Debbie for earning a spot in the LatinxEd Fellowship. Her experience will bring valuable new perspectives back to our organization, helping us better serve Latine students and expand our impact throughout Anson and Union counties,” said Vice President of Career and Workforce Development Ryan Anthony.
At South Piedmont, Normandia-Berrios leads Career Services, which helps students explore career options and prepare for the workforce.
