Parking Lot Improvements Coming to OCH Campus in Early 2026, Including 78 New Spots

Improvements are coming to the Old Charlotte Highway campus parking lots following action by South Piedmont’s Board of Trustees last week.

The trustees approved adding nearly $1.37 million to the current Aseptic Training Facility construction project. The funds are a combination of Union County appropriations and interest earned on College investments.

With the Board’s approval, the funds will be used to repair several parking lots on the OCH campus that have been damaged during construction of the Aseptic building and renovations to Building A.

Three parking lots will be resurfaced and restriped. They include:

  • The lot adjacent to the Aseptic Training Facility that is not currently accessible to non-construction traffic.
  • The two lots between the Main Building and Building A.

Not included in this project are the two lots adjacent to the Braswell Building,  the line of parking spots outside Building A that run parallel to South Piedmont Street, and the Rogers Road parking lot.

The resurfacing and restriping is expected to take place over several days and be completed in February.

Also as part of this project, the berm between South Piedmont Street and the parking lot that extends from the Main Building to Building A will be reduced. This will allow the parking lot to be expanded toward the Braswell Building and for an additional 78 parking spaces to be created. South Piedmont Street will not be affected by this phase of the project.

Additionally, the reallocated funds will be used for the exploration and potential construction of a loop road that will begin at the Rogers Road parking lot and extend to the Aseptic Training Facility parking lot. From there, drivers would be able to access all areas of the OCH campus.

Finally, a concrete pad with electrical hookups will be constructed outside Building A. The pad will be used as both a gathering place for student events and potentially for future food truck parking.

The reallocation approved by the Board at their Dec. 9 meeting was a strategic decision that will allow the Aseptic Training Facility contractor, Rodgers, to simply add the parking lot improvements to their current scope of work. This will expedite completion.

“We know that parking has been an ongoing issue at the OCH campus. This project will bring an additional 78 parking spots online in a very short amount of time. The resurfacing will not only make driving on campus more enjoyable, but it will elevate the overall aesthetics of the campus and provide a fresh surface for our 2026 commencement ceremony,” said Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services/CFO Michelle Brock.

“We look forward to making these improvements in early 2026, and we thank the Board of Trustees for their support.”
