Creating Modern Learning Environments

Big things are happening at South Piedmont Community College! If you haven’t been to one of our campuses in some time, you might notice some big changes to our facilities and locations. We are committed to providing modern learning spaces for our students that are flexible, accessible and facilitate state-of-the-art instruction. To support this vision for the future, the College has created a Capital Improvement Plan designed to create spaces and facilities that meet the academic needs of our students. Building A

OCH Campus | Completed in 2024

Did you know Building A used to be a bank? The newly renovated 82,000-square-foot building received a completely redesigned exterior and major floor plan updates. The new space includes more than 25 classrooms and 50 offices. It houses major programs including the School of College & Career Readiness, Union County Early College, Digital Media Lab, Campus IT and Safety, the College’s print and graphics shop, various studios, meeting places, conference rooms and a new board room. There’s even a space for an art gallery. The Conference Center, Community Room, and conference rooms are available to the community to rent.

Aseptic Training Facility

OCH Campus | Coming 2026

The 21,000-square-foot Aseptic Training Facility is a brand-new building that will provide experiential classrooms, labs, and simulated manufacturing spaces designed to teach students about working in an aseptic environment. With the growth of the life sciences industry in North Carolina, the state needs more facilities like the one being built at South Piedmont. The Aseptic Training Facility is designed to support the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Students and workers will be able to practice sterile processes and procedures in pharmaceutical/manufacturing settings. The finished building will also include a state-of-the-art ballroom.

Center for Entrepreneurship

OCH Campus | Coming 2026

The Center for Entrepreneurship will be a community resource center providing collaborative and innovative programming designed to support local small businesses and entrepreneurs in Union County. The building will host the South Piedmont Small Business Center and offer classes, workshops, and credential programs for community members looking to learn more about starting or growing a business. The Center will host business networking events, guest speaker seminars, and business pitch competitions as opportunities for local business leaders and entrepreneurs to connect and engage with their peers. The building is made possible thanks to the support of the voters of Union County, who in 2022 approved a general obligation bond request for $32,725,000 to pay for the project.

Braswell Building

OCH Campus | Completed in 2024

In 2024, the Braswell Building received renovations that improved the overall flow of traffic and experience in the lobby and other interior spaces throughout the building. The renovations included new finishes in the corridors and classrooms. Several spaces were reconfigured to create classrooms, labs, administration spaces, and a simulation lab for Health Sciences degree programs. Renovations also included a accessible restroom and lactation room.

Garibaldi

LLP Campus | Completed in 2024

The Garibaldi Building’s recent renovations included a new office suite for the Business Office, which is now situated to improve access and efficiency for both students and employees. Renovations also included an upgraded space for the Information Systems department, as well as an updated conference room, loading dock, and restrooms. In total, 12 new offices were created.
