We offer structured credentialing pathways across all key certification levels, including Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), and Paramedic.

Each course is led by experienced instructors and combines up-to-date medical knowledge with hands-on training, ensuring you will be well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of emergency care. Through our program, students gain not only the technical competencies but also the confidence and critical thinking skills essential for providing high-quality care in real-world emergencies.

The Program Options

12 Weeks
The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) program is designed to provide foundational training to those seeking to become proficient in emergency medical response. This program will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge required to provide immediate care in emergency situations, serving as a vital link in the chain of survival.

After graduating from this program, you can pursue a career as an Emergency Medical Responder in various settings, including ambulance services, fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and other emergency response organizations. This certification serves as a stepping stone for further advancement in the field of emergency medical services.

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program is designed to provide comprehensive training for students seeking to become proficient in emergency medical care. This program will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge required to respond effectively to various medical emergencies and provide critical pre-hospital care.

After graduating from this program, you can pursue a career as an EMT in various settings, including ambulance services, hospitals, fire departments, and other emergency response organizations. This certification serves as a stepping stone for further advancement in the field of emergency medical services, including paramedic training and other specialized roles.

After graduating from this program, you can pursue a career as an AEMT in various settings, including ambulance services, hospitals, fire departments, and other emergency response organizations. The Paramedic program is designed to provide advanced training for students seeking to become highly skilled paramedics. This program will equip you with the knowledge and expertise required to perform complex medical procedures and provide critical pre-hospital care in various emergency situations.

After graduating from this program, you can pursue a career as a paramedic in various settings, including ambulance services, hospitals, fire departments, and other emergency response organizations. This certification serves as a foundation for further advancement in the field of emergency medical services, including leadership roles and specialized medical positions.

12 Weeks
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Continuing Education Courses for Credentials program is designed to provide EMS professionals with ongoing education and training to maintain and enhance their certifications. This program ensures that EMRs, EMTs, AEMTs, and Paramedics stay current with the latest advancements in emergency medical care and continue to meet industry standards.

How to Apply

  1. Background & Drug Screening: All students complete a background check and drug screening through COMPLIO.  Instructions will be given on the first day of class.  Students will pay COMPLIO directly for this service.  Any person that appears on a sex offender registry will be removed from the course per NC State Statute.
  2. Computer: Students are required to have a computer or tablet that meets the technical requirements to use the CANVAS Learning Management System and testing security software.  Students will use Chrome web browser.
  3. Uniform:
    • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) students do not have a uniform requirement.  Students supply on their own:
      • Black or Dark Navy pants
      • Black belt
      • Black boots/shoes that are suitable for EMS work.
      • Plain dark colored jacket as needed for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) students during field experience. 
    • SPCC supplies to the students:
      • Polo type shirt (color and embroidery specific to each level)
      • Advanced Life Support students (AEMT & Paramedic) receive scrub tops and pants (color and embroidery specific to each level)
      • Advanced Life Support students (AEMT & Paramedic) receive a job shirt (embroidery specific to each level)
    • SPCC student ID badge worn with a “badge buddy” that indicates that they are an EMS student (color and text specific to each level).  Students obtain their Student ID by visiting student services in person.  The badge buddy will be given out on the first day of class.
    • Students are required to attend class and field experience/clinical shifts in uniform.  Shirts will be available on the first day of class.  Students that are employed at a public safety agency that has a uniform may wear that uniform to class.  Students will wear the SPCC supplied uniform top or scrubs while at a field or clinical shift.
  4. Textbooks: Each course has required textbooks that are available through the campus Barnes & Nobel (BNC) bookstore.  Students must purchase textbooks prior to the course start and should bring them to class.
  5. Equipment: Students must have the following items (provided by the student) for use throughout the course:
    • Stethoscope
    • Adult Blood Pressure Cuff
    • Penlight
    • Trauma Sheers
    • Eye Protection
    • Watch that indicates seconds.
  1. Age: Students must be 17 years of age by the end date of the course.
  2. Education: During the registration process upload one of the following documents:
    • High School Diploma or transcript indicating successful graduation
    • GED or another High School equivalency
    • CASAS reading exam taken within the past 12 months with a score of 244 (10th grade reading level) or higher.
    • Current High School students may not enroll in the course if any class date falls on a regularly scheduled High School course day.

    • College transcript with successful completion of Freshman level Math (MAT-1xx) or CASAS mathematics exam taken within the past 12 months with a score of 249 or higher.
    • College transcript with successful completion of Freshman level English (ENG-1xx) or CASAS English exam taken within the past 12 months with a score of 254 or higher.
    • College transcript with successful completion of Anatomy and Physiology course.  Accepted courses:
      • EMS-3163 or BIO-163
      • EMS-3168 & 3169 or BIO-168 & 169

    • Students must qualify for the CCP program and enroll in the CTE pathway.
  3. Driver’s License:
    • If Career Coach is sending the Driver’s License, email it to registrar@spcc.edu . In the Subject line enter the Student Name and ID# and Driver’s License.
    • If the student wants to submit their document, they will attach a copy of their license to this Etrieve Form.
