South Piedmont Welcomes Philip J. Merrill as Fall Keynote Speaker for “Pursue Your Passion”

South Piedmont Community College will welcome historian, writer, and collector Philip J. Merrill as the fall keynote speaker for its “Pursue Your Passion” series on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 5–6:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Community Room of Building A at the College’s Old Charlotte Highway campus and will include dinner. The event is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required.

About Philip J. Merrill:

Philip J. Merrill is a historian, writer, appraiser, and collector from Baltimore, Maryland. He is the founder of Nanny Jack & Company, an archives and consulting firm that houses more than 30,000 artifacts highlighting African American history and culture. A former appraiser on PBS’s “Antiques Roadshow,” Merrill created the program’s first category for Black memorabilia. He is also the author of several books, including “The Art of Collecting Black Memorabilia” and “The Black America Series: Baltimore.” Merrill has collaborated with organizations such as the Smithsonian Institution, the Maryland Historical Society, and Maryland Public Television, and has been recognized with numerous awards, including Towson University’s Distinguished Black Marylander Award and an honorary doctorate from Eastern Theological Seminary.
