South Piedmont Community College will launch a degree in Construction Management Technology in January 2024. Applications are now being accepted.

“We’ve heard from our partners in the industry for some time now that there is a need for a more highly skilled construction workforce to keep pace with the growth in our service area. We are proud to have obtained state approval for this degree and to begin offering it in the spring,” said Dr. Mark Little, dean of the School of Applied Science and Technology.

Demand for construction managers is only likely to increase. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects there will be 8 percent growth in the construction management field, equating to 36,400 jobs, through 2031.

South Piedmont’s Construction Management Technology program will prepare students to supervise, manage, and inspect construction sites, buildings, and associated facilities. The program includes instruction in site safety, personnel supervision, labor relations, diversity training, construction techniques and documentation, scheduling, resource and cost control, bid strategies, rework prevention, construction insurance and bonding, accident management and investigation, applicable laws and regulations, and communication skills.

Students will also learn key knowledge and principles of carpentry, masonry, concrete finishing, electrical work, HVACR, and plumbing. They will graduate prepared to work as construction managers able to plan, coordinate, budget, and supervise construction projects from start to finish.
