Overview
SPCC offers two options to students who may choose to request curriculum credit for either; 1) having enrolled in and completed certain curriculum courses as a noncredit student, or 2) having earned certain, currently valid industry certifications.
Credit articulation is intended for noncredit students who are either seeking to sample an introductory curriculum course, or receive limited curriculum credit for a currently valid industry certification, with the goal of eventually enrolling as a curriculum student and completing a curriculum degree, diploma, or certificate.
The two options are described below.
Non-Credit to Credit
This option allows students – who have enrolled in and completed pre-approved continuing education courses – to request and receive the equivalent curriculum course credit on their SPCC transcript.
Non-credit to credit articulation is an option for noncredit students who enroll in one or more of the following courses:

Credential to Credit
This option provides a mechanism for students who have certain, currently valid industry certifications to request and receive the equivalent curriculum course credit on their SPCC transcript.

How It Works:
- STEP 1: An individual applies to SPCC as a noncredit student, enrolls in a preapproved noncredit class, and completes the class with a grade of “S”. Or, an individual applies to SPCC as curriculum student and assembles evidence of applicable, currently valid industry certifications.
- STEP 2: Student completes the Etrieve- Non-credit to Credit or Credential to Credit form.
- STEP 3: If approved, the appropriate curriculum credit appears on the student’s SPCC transcript.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- How do I determine which noncredit classes have been approved for curriculum credit? This website will list all current curriculum courses approved for this articulation process. Courses for articulation are recommended by curriculum faculty, based on an analysis of content similarity between curriculum and noncredit course descriptions. These descriptions are defined by the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS).
- Can I earn a curriculum degree, diploma, or certificate by taking curriculum courses as a noncredit student? NCCCS standards require that students earning a curriculum degree, diploma, or certificate must have taken at least 25% of the required program courses as an enrolled curriculum student.
- How do I earn college credit for articulated noncredit/curriculum courses? If you completed the noncredit course with a grade of “S”, the next step is to complete the Non-Credit to Credit form.
- Is there a limit to how much total noncredit courses may receive curriculum credit through this process? It should not exceed 75% of the required program courses as an enrolled curriculum student.
- Is there a limit to how many industry credentials I may submit for curriculum course credit consideration? It should not exceed 75% of the required program courses as an enrolled curriculum student.
