SOUTH PIEDMONT, WINGATE UNVERSITY, AND THE TOWN OF WAXHAW ANNOUNCE NEXT STEPS IN POTENTIAL PARTNERSHIP

Officials from South Piedmont Community College, the Town of Waxhaw and Wingate University recently announced plans to conduct a feasibility study to determine if a portion of property owned by the Town of Waxhaw could become a college satellite facility, offering associate, bachelor, and graduate classes, and park amenities.

Furthering the potential partnership, South Piedmont CC, Wingate University and the Town of Waxhaw named the SPCC/Wingate/Waxhaw feasibility study team members:

  1. Michelle Brock, VP for Finance and Administration, South Piedmont CC (Chair)
  2. Greg Ferguson, Town Manager, Town of Waxhaw (Vice-Chair)
  3. Carl Bishop, VP for Academic Affairs, South Piedmont CC
  4. Julie Sikes, VP for Institutional Advancement, South Piedmont CC
  5. Dena Sabinske, Parks & Recreation Director, Town of Waxhaw
  6. Peter Frank, Dean of the Byrum School of Business, Wingate U
  7. Lisa McCarter, Planning and Zoning Administrator, Town of Waxhaw
  8. Jeff Atkinson, Assistant VP for Ballantyne Campus, Wingate U

  10. Chris Plate, Executive Director, Monroe Union County Economic Development (Ex Officio)
  11. Pat Kahle, President of the Union County Chamber of Commerce, (Ex Officio)

The feasibility study will also include engagement of stakeholders and the public, with special emphasis on community members of the Town of Waxhaw and Western Union County. The collaborative effort will study complementary and regionally critical, academic programs to be offered by South Piedmont Community College and Wingate University.

The Town of Waxhaw’s Parks and Recreation Department will develop community recreational space on the site as part of the project. Together, the three entities will incorporate academic, professional development, and recreational programing opportunities into space planning.

The conclusion of the study should help determine:  (1) if and how the project meets space and program needs for the functional viability of each organization; (2) how space is shared and maximized by all entities; and (3) how stakeholders benefit from the adjacency of partnership members.

SPCC, Wingate University and Waxhaw have agreed to begin the study phase by Jan. 8, 2018 with projected completion by May 2018.
