The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Leadership (CTLL) empowers and supports South Piedmont’s teachers, leaders, and scholars.  As a community of reflective practitioners and learners dedicated to life-long growth and continuous improvement, we engage in professional development to foster student success.  The Center provides high-quality development opportunities which are aligned with South Piedmont’s educators’ expertise, North Carolina state resources, and connections in the community and region.

For each week of instruction that is transitioned to Moodle, one unit should appear with the following information: 

  • Individual class dates replaced by online instruction 
  • Learning outcomes for the unit 
  • Resources (readings, videos, etc.) for the unit 
  • Assignments and evaluation methods (including due dates) for the unit 

South Piedmont Community College has infrastructure in place to support eLearning. Moodle, a learning management system where course sites are located, can be accessed through your web browser (Firefox is recommended). Each course at South Piedmont has an associated Moodle course site that is automatically created. 

  • Each student enrolled in a curriculum course through South Piedmont may access their courses in Moodle. 
  • Through Moodle, instructors and students can continue to engage in meaningful ways. 
  • In order to minimize interruptions to learning, please use the resources linked here to migrate your courses online.

Virtual Learning Community (VLC) 

NCLOR (NC Learning Object Repository) 

  • Repository to manage, collect, and share digital learning resources for use in traditional or distance learning environments; over 194,000 learning objects and resources including NROC, V-Scope Explorer, Intelecom Adult Basic Education; open educational resources; ebooks; professional development tutorials and videos and hundreds of quailty resources to support specific NCCCS courses. Interactive learning objects are mapped to the NCCCS courses. The NCLOR reduces duplication of effort associated with course development; and resources are integrated and accessible through Blackboard and Moodle.  

NROC (Monterey Institute for Technology and Education/National Repository of Online Content) 

  • The NROC collection, accessible through the NCLOR, contains over 3,500 multi-curriculum topics and 1,128 additional lessons. Topics include Algebra, Developmental Math and English, Biology, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, and Religions of the World. 

Quality Matters 

  • Quality Matters (QM) is a faculty-centered peer review process that is designed to certify the quality of online courses and online components. The System Office subscription provides NCCCS colleges with training opportunities and discounted memberships.  

STAT!Ref® / BoardVitals 

  • This resource provides an unlimited use license for all colleges. The database contains electronic medical textbooks; journals, and current articles on allied health, nursing, dental, and emergency services. Access is by IP authentication on campus and remote login off campus. Access is also available through a free mobile app for electronic devices.  

UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center/NCCS Webinar Series 

  • Collaboration with telemedicine department of UNC-LCCC to produce webinars for NCCCS nursing courses shared with the state-wide community. Webinars include closed captioning and scripts. 

V-Scope Explorer: Basic Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology 

  • System-wide resource for Basic Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology collections; state-of-the-art high resolution microscopy which mimics physical functionality of a real microscope and requires students to follow traditional laboratory process and protocol; web-deliverable, includes study guides, and can be downloaded to college servers; free professional development workshops by vendor. 

Virtual Computing Environment (VCE) 

  • This collaborative project of the North Carolina Community College System and NC State University allows individual community colleges to provide computer lab services through cloud computing and to achieve cost efficiency for software and hardware. The VCE business model provides community colleges a cost-effective alternative to expensive, traditional computer labs. Selection is determined through an annual application process. 

Safety Precautions and protocols

    • Face masks are optional.

  • Employees and students must wash hands or use hand sanitizer immediately upon entering a building and frequently throughout the day. 
  • Hand sanitizing stations are available in high traffic areas on each campus, including computer labs, health and science labs, and testing centers. 
  • Limited quantities of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks and gloves are available for employees to pick up in the OCH or LLP Business Offices. Please contact Emily Hasty at ehasty@spcc.edu or 704-272-5326 for pickup arrangements.  
  • Vendors, contractors, and visitors on campus must adhere to safety protocols with disinfection and social distancing measures and have the appropriate permissions from SPCC. 
  • All high touch surfaces including door handles/knobs/push plates/bars, handrails, light switches, toilet seats, toilet partitions, sinks, counters, bathroom fixtures, soap and paper towel dispensers, and water fountains are being sanitized by janitorial services every night and by our Facilities staff twice daily. 
  • Social distancing practices for employees and students continue to be enforced. Maintain a 6-foot distance between yourself and others and avoid close contact. Signage will serve as reminders and guides to establish and maintain a 6-foot distance between persons.  
  • Signage clearly marks designated entry and exit doors. 
  • See through plastic barriers are utilized in workspaces where social distancing is difficult to achieve or impractical.
  • Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. The following are known symptoms but may not include all possible symptoms:
    • Fever or chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
  • Anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID 19 or generally do not feel well must stay home.

Telework Guidelines

  • Employees should refer to the college’s Policy 4.54 – Flexible Work Arrangements policy and procedure for responsibilities during the teleworking period.  
  • The Senior Leadership Team will coordinate individual or departmental work schedules and job coverage.   
    • Absences from work not applicable under Federal Emergency Leave guidelines will have to be applied to other available and applicable leave types. Please contact Lauren Sellers at lsellers@spcc.edu with questions regarding leave procedures.
    • To ensure the safety and wellness for the college community, employees and students MUST stay home if sick or develop COVID-19 symptoms. 


  • All college-affiliated travel is prohibited except for travel to SPCC locations and to SPCC-affiliated off-site locations that continue to host services and programs. 
  • For personal travel, full-time and part-time faculty and staff should continue to complete the Travel Form located under the Personal Travel tab on SharePoint as notification to Human Resources about any upcoming travel OR to document travel within the last two weeks outside of Anson and Union Counties. 
  • Discuss your intended travel plans with your supervisor prior to booking and engaging in travel, especially to areas where guidelines are more lenient than those in North Carolina. The vacation request is already part of our policy and practice, but the destination and mode of transportation is more important during the pandemic. We will have to determine how work is or will be impacted by the vacation.
    • You will be expected to quarantine or submit a negative COVID test if you do the following:
      • use public transportation (e.g., plane, train, bus, etc.)
      • engage in activities known to be risky for exposure and contraction of COVID-19, such as attending large gatherings, participating in close-contact events, etc.
      • have been in contact with someone who has tested positive and/or experience symptoms of COVID-19.

Virtual Contact and Meeting information

The best way to have virtual meetings is through Skype or Microsoft Teams. All users, employees and students, have access to Skype and Microsoft Teams through Office 365. Employees that have permanent SPCC issued laptops should have the Skype or Microsoft Teams clients installed. The Skype or Microsoft Teams clients do not have to be installed to participate in a meeting. 

Disabling Call Forwarding 

  • Press the “Fwd All” button on your desk phone 
  • Verify the message “Forwarded to XXXXXXXXXX” disappears from the screen 

Forwarding Calls  

  • Press the “Fwd All” button on your desk phone 
  • Enter 9 + 1 + 10-digit phone number 
  • Place a test call once calls have been forwarded. If the test call fails, contact Brian Nine, Director of Infrastructure Support, BNine@spcc.edu or 704.993.2477 

Hiding Outgoing Caller ID Number 

  • On a per call basis 
  • Press *67 followed by the 10-digit phone number

    iPhones (Note: This feature may not be supported by all phone carriers. Instructions may vary depending on phone version.) 
    • Go to Settings 
    • Select Phone 
    • Click Show My Caller ID 
    • Use the toggle switch to show or hide your number 

  • Android Devices
    (Note: This feature may not be supported by all phone carriers. Instructions may vary depending on phone type and version.)
    • Open the Phone app 
    • Open the Menu 
    • Select Settings 
    • Click on Call settings 
    • Click on Additional settings 
    • Click on Caller ID 
    • Choose “Hide number” and your number will be hidden 
    • Choose “Show number” or “Network default” to resume showing your number
