Leave Plans & Paid Holidays

South Piedmont offers various types of paid time off in order to meet the needs of a diverse workforce.

Annual/Vacation Leave

Full-time employees, with the exception of curriculum faculty, earn annual/vacation leave per the rate chart below:

Years of Total State Service Hours Granted Each Month
Less than 5 years 9.5
5 but less than 10 years 11.5
10 but less than 15 years 13.5
15 but less than 20 years 15.5
20 years or more 18 hrs.

Sick Leave

All full-time employees earn sick leave at a rate of 8 hours per month.

Personal Leave

Full-time curriculum faculty may reclassify up to 5 days of sick leave and transfer to personal leave each fiscal year.

Other available leave types may include, but are not limited to:

Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA)

FMLA entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave.

Child Involvement Leave

Full-time employees are granted 8 hours of child involvement leave each calendar year to be used for activities with children in preschool through grade 12.

Voluntary Shared Leave

An employee may donate leave to an employee who has been approved to receive voluntary shared leave because of a medical condition of the employee or of a member of the employee’s immediate family that will require the employee’s absence for a prolonged period of time.
