North Carolina State Health Plan
All full-time employees are eligible for health insurance coverage under the North Carolina State Health Plan (SHP) through Blue Cross Blue Shield. Open enrollment occurs during the month of October, and benefits are active for the following calendar year.
Supplemental Insurance Plans
South Piedmont offers a variety of optional supplemental insurance plans available through payroll deduction, pre-tax where applicable, to meet the needs of our diverse workforce. Plans are available for short term disability, long term disability, accident coverage, cancer coverage, hospital indemnity, life insurance, etc.
North Carolina Teachers and State Employees’ Retirement System
All full-time employees are members of the North Carolina Teachers and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Employees contribute 6% of compensation to the retirement system, which is matched by the state at 18.86% (2018-19 rate; subject to change each fiscal year).

After completing 5 years of service with the state, employees are considered vested under the TSERS and are eligible to receive a monthly retirement benefit at the time of retirement.
