Running one marathon would be a feat for anyone but Jim McAlhaney has run 37 full marathons to date. He will run his 38th marathon on May 1 in Myrtle Beach. During this run, Jim hopes to bring awareness to South Piedmont as well as raise scholarship funds for students through the SPCC Foundation.
Jim’s love of running started 16 years ago. Some of his favorite marathons included the 118th Boston Marathon in 2014 and winning the inaugural Carolina Beach Marathon in October 2016.
But running is only part of the healthy activities Jim enjoys. As a Psychology and Religion Instructor since 2008, he takes a mind, body, and spirit approach to life. Until the COVID interruption, Jim offered Mindfulness Meditation Meetings every week for students, employees, and the community. These 30 minute sessions sought to bring relaxation during a busy fall semester, an effort he’d like to rebook through a club.
Jim wants to positively impact his students inside and outside of the classroom. One of his fondest memories is taking some First Year Experience students kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding at Lake Wylie.
