Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)

SPCC’s Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) program offers non-credit courses which prepare students to apply technical skills in non-destructive testing of materials and component parts for flaws or defects which may jeopardize structural integrity. Students gain skills needed to perform non-destructive testing techniques such as ultrasonic, electromagnetic particle, dye penetrant, and visual testing. Upon program completion, students may choose to sit for various certifications offered by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT).

Ultrasonic Testing

Course Description

96 hours

This course introduces the basic principles, limitations, and advantages of ultrasonic nondestructive testing as applied to industrial components and provides the initial elements of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) requirements for UT practitioners. Topics include sound wave modes and sound theory, and display modes are discussed and demonstrated through lab applications. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of ultrasonics, select proper equipment, and set up an instrument for straight beam examinations. The course is aligned with certifications offered by ASNT, and prepares students to sit for select ASNT certification exams.
