AEMT to Paramedic Bridge

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Continuing Education AEMT to Paramedic Bridge program is held in 2 parts, totaling approximately 800 hours and taking around 9 months to complete.  Students will complete online interactive lectures, classroom-focused lectures, and individual skill labs, clinical, and field internships.  Upon completion of both parts, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and affective behavior of a competent entry-level Paramedic. Students will then be eligible to test for North Carolina Paramedic certification and National Registry Paramedic.  Course content is based upon the 2021 National EMS Education Standard in conjunction with the State of North Carolina approved EMS protocols, policies, procedures, skills, and medicine formulary.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    • Watch the Mandatory AEMT to Paramedic Bridge Information Session and submit the follow-up information Session Quiz (coming soon)
    • Possession of a valid and active AEMT (Advanced Emergency Medical Technician) Credential
      • unless completed SPCC AEMT course immediately prior to enrollment.
    • High School Diploma or Equivalency
    • Successful completion of college-level English, or within the previous 12 months complete a written assessment placing the student into college-level English
      • unless completed SPCC AEMT course immediately prior to enrollment.
    • Successful completion of college-level Math, or within the previous 12 months complete a written assessment placing the student into college-level Math
      • unless completed SPCC AEMT course immediately prior to enrollment.
    • Score 70% or higher on the FISDAP Paramedic Entrance Exam
      • unless completed SPCC AEMT course immediately prior to enrollment.

 CO-REQUISITES REQUIREMENTS

Must be completed in order to graduate from this course:

  1. Anatomy & Physiology (may be completed concurrently with AEMT to Paramedic coursework)
    • BIO-163: Basic Anatomy and Physiology 
             or
    • BIO-168 & 169: Anatomy & Physiology I & II  (recommended if going into nursing)

All paperwork from the AMT Checklist must be turned in to the appropriate person listed on the checklist. Do not send links to documents. All signatures must be “live” signatures (meaning not typed) Registration forms are not provided until all documentation has been submitted. Registrations are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis of completed steps listed in the checklist. We cannot reserve or save seats for anyone.

OTHER REQUIRED MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES

  • Computer that meets the technical requirements for Canvas and My Brady Lab.
  • Uniform
    • Black or Dark Navy Pants with Black Belt. Uniform tops are provided on the first day of class.
      • Note: Students sponsored by a public safety organization (Police, Fire, EMS) will wear their agency uniform.
    • Black boots/shoes suitable for EMS
    • Official SPCC Paramedic Student Identification Badge (available after registration confirmation – included in fees)
  • Textbook
    • e-Textbook code provided on the first day of class (included in fees)
  • Complio Background Check, Drug Screen, and Vaccination Tracking
    • Students will set up their accounts with Complio on the first day of class. This will require the activation of your personal account which is $110.75 and for 24 months. (paid separately) If you already have an account it must be valid through the last day of class.
  • My Clinical Exchange
    • Students will set up their accounts with My Clinical Exchange on the first day of class. This will require the activation of your personal account which is $ and paid directly to them. If you already have an account it must be valid through the last day of class.
  • Vaccination Checklist
    • All Vaccinations must be started before the first date of clinicals.
