CRIMINAL JUSTICE TECHNOLOGY - FORENSIC SCIENCE

Program Description

 

South Piedmont now offers a degree program for aspiring crime scene technicians. 

The Forensic Science program was developed in close partnership with the Union County Sheriff’s Office to ensure students will receive the skills and knowledge they will need to successfully enter the workforce. Students will practice their emerging skills on equipment donated by the UCSO and will learn from forensics professionals representing law enforcement agencies throughout North Carolina. 

 

What is Forensic Science?

Forensic Science is the application of science to matters of the law in both criminal and civil cases. Forensic Science is a concentration under the curriculum of Criminal Justice Technology. This curriculum is designed to provide knowledge of evidence processing and procedures, plus a foundational knowledge of our criminal justice system.

Students will learn both theory and hands-on application in the fields of: 

  • Fingerprint classification, identification, and chemical development
  • Trace evidence collection and analysis
  • Crime scene processing, photography, and investigation

Classes a blend of online instruction with in-person labs to give students the opportunity to practice their skills in a simulated environment.

Careers with a 2 year in forensic science degree:

  • Crime Scene Cleaner
