Introduction to Welding Processes
Course Description
WLD 3106Y
This course is intended for students who possesses no prior knowledge of welding concepts, and provides instruction on the principles and practices of welding. Course content will cover welding processes such as SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), and GTAW (TIG) on plate, blueprint reading, cutting processes, and metallurgy. Safety practices will also be reviewed and demonstrated. This course is aligned with the SENSE Level I program designed by the American Welding Society. SPCC welding faculty hold current AWS welding certifications, and SPCC’s welding facilities utilize the AWS SENSE curriculum.

Intermediate Welding Processes
Course Description
WLD 3106J
Instructor permission required to register for this course. This course is intended for students who already possess an introductory knowledge of the following welding concepts: SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), and GTAW (TIG) on plate, blueprint reading, cutting processes, and metallurgy; and are seeking additional training in areas such as out-of-position welds, and open root plate welds. Safety practices will also be reviewed and demonstrated. Students will be introduced to destructive and non-destructive testing. This course is aligned with the SENSE Level I program designed by the American Welding Society. SPCC welding faculty hold current AWS welding certifications, and SPCC’s welding facilities utilize the AWS SENSE curriculum.

Students will also learn welding inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing. This course is aligned with the SENSE Level II program designed by the American Welding Society. SPCC welding faculty hold current AWS welding certifications, and SPCC’s welding facilities utilize the AWS SENSE curriculum.

Welding Practice Lab
Course Description
This course is designed for current welding professionals who are seeking an environment to practice and perfect existing welding skills. This course is taught in an open lab format, allowing students to work with a credentialed welding instructor in a supervised lab setting. Students may receive up to 24 hours of lab instruction.
Students must contact Eric Tucker at (704) 290-5806 or DTucker@spcc.edu in order to schedule their 4-hour blocks on instruction. Requests must be received at least 24 hours in advance.
