Architecture & Construction Pathways

Classes are available at South Piedmont campuses in Monroe and Polkton, as well as online. Some may even be offered at your high school. These classes follow structured pathways and are aligned with the K-12 curriculum and North Carolina’s Career and College Ready Standards. Eligible high school juniors and seniors can enroll in these CTE pathways.

This pathway prepares you for a growing career in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R). You’ll learn essential skills like refrigeration, electrical systems, heating technology, and all-weather systems.
These hands-on classes are designed to give you the foundation you need to start working in the HVAC industry, which has a high demand for skilled technicians. Plus, you’ll earn college credits while still in high school, giving you a head start on an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree.

Learn the basics of construction management. Take classes on materials, codes, and construction methods. Prepare to move up the latter in your position with hands-on classes and experienced instructors.

The Enhanced Electrical CTE Certificate gives you a strong foundation in electrical systems, from circuit analysis and residential wiring to motors, controls, and PLC (programmable logic controllers). You’ll develop essential skills for working with both residential and commercial electrical systems, preparing you for a career as an electrician, electrical technician, or in other high-demand roles.
Plus, this program lets you earn college credits while still in high school, giving you a jump start on your Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree.
